Profile depth of your tyres

Safety is hugely important on the road and at MAES we are happy to give you some handy tips so you can hit the road without worry.

Check your tyres regularly

It is hugely important to regularly check your tyres and profile depth for wear. This is because the tyre tread is the only part of the tyre in contact with the road. Therefore, the quality of the rubber and the depth of the groove are the most important factors for the grip and handling of your car.

Thus, with worn tyres or an incorrect profile depth, you are more likely to have tyre failures and aquaplaning. In addition, the braking performance and handling of your car also decrease. Legally, your tyre is worn out and must be replaced when the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm. It is best to replace your tyres as soon as they are below 2.5 – 3 mm, and for winter tyres this is as early as 4 mm. The video gives you a handy and easy tip for checking when it is best to change your tyres. Several tyre products also have some markings on the tyre. Once you can no longer see these, your tyre is worn out and urgently needs replacing.
