Can HVO offer a solution for rejection diesel cars?

Diesel vehicles with Euro 5 and 6 standards are increasingly rejected during inspections due to stricter soot measurements. This has led to increased maintenance costs for car owners. However, there is a green alternative that not only significantly reduces CO2 emissions, but can also reduce particulate matter. Meet Hydrogenerated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a biodiesel that is not only environmentally friendly, but also a potential lifesaver for diesel car owners to drive around less pollutingly.

Fuel, Tips

Since the introduction of an advanced particle counter during car inspections, diesel cars with Euro 5 and 6 standards have been tested more accurately for soot emissions. This has led to a remarkable percentage of 12% of diesel cars that are rejected or receive comments about the particulate filter. The consequences are significant maintenance costs for car owners, with both the particulate filter and other engine components having to be checked or even replaced.

This is of course not the case with every diesel car, but is more common in cars that drive relatively few kilometers. A diesel engine often takes half an hour to forty-five minutes to warm up. At smaller distances, the engine is not used optimally and this may be one of the causes. A good tip is of course to regularly plan a longer trip so that your motorcycle functions correctly again. But of course there are other solutions and this is where HVO comes to the fore.

The role of HVO – a green alternative for the rejection of diesel cars

Hydrogenerated Vegetable Oil (HVO), which falls under the category of Diesel XTL, is a renewable biodiesel made from residual products from the food industry. HVO reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 90% compared to conventional diesel. Secondly, another important advantage is that HVO emits up to 33% less particulate matter, making it the ideal choice for environmentally conscious drivers.

Can I just fill up with HVO?

One of the advantages of HVO is that it is a drop-in product. This means that it can be filled in the tank of your car without any modifications. There are no extra costs or conversions required, and it works just like regular diesel. However, it is important to check whether your vehicle manufacturer has approved HVO. As the approval process is still in progress for some car manufacturers.

Availability of HVO:

At the moment, HVO is already available at 4 MAES locations in Kampenhout, Deinze, Ruisbroek truck and Londerzeel truck. MAES plans to expand the number of locations to 15 to 20 by the end of the year. This is for making it easier for car owners to choose this environmentally friendly fuel.

So do you drive around with a Euro 5 or 6 diesel engine? But do you want to drive around more environmentally friendly? Then HVO can be a sustainable alternative for you. Furthermore, HVO can help battle the rejection of diesel cars.
