Increase in excise duty on diesel

Thanks to the decrease in the official maximum price of diesel B7 on 07/02/23, (in accordance with the RD of 16/03/22), the amount of special excise duty on all types of white diesel (B7, B10, B20-30, XTL) is increased on 07/02/23 by EUR 35.95/m³.

Diesel

This is the first increase in excise duty on diesel since it was reduced on 19 March 2022. Then, we got an excise duty reduction on diesel of 144.6281 euro/m³. Petrol also got an excise duty cut then. They did put it back to its pre-reduction level as early as 17 November 22. For diesel, on the other hand, the government did not increase excise duty in 2022 as the official maximum price of diesel did not fall below 1.70 euro/l.

As the maximum price of diesel B7 is going to fall below 1.70 euro/l (incl. VAT), this is going to change. As this also happened with petrol, the government of half of the price drop excluding VAT converts into an excise duty increase.

the cliquet system converts half of the drop into an increase in excise duty on diesel. This raises the official maximum price including VAT back above €1.70. By activating the cliquette system for diesel now, any further drop in the maximum price of diesel – even if it exceeds 1.70 euro/l – will convert half of the drop into an excise duty increase, and this until the original excise duty amount of 600 euro/m³ is reached again.

These excise duty increases are eligible for a refund under professional diesel. This is until the ceiling of 205.0665 euro/m³ set for 2023
